Graeme Dalling Fit For Good team

Graeme Dalling, Trainer

What got you into fitness?

I was not a natural sports person when I was younger and really struggled with ball sports. I think the aggressive, competitive nature of school sports put me off. I much preferred more social and friendly activities like running, cycling and swimming as my form of exercise. I would (and still do) find it very therapeutic and a great tool to switch off from worries. I went to drama school and trained as an actor, which was basically three years of dance, physical movement and adrenaline - we all graduated as theatrical military machines, and I’ve tried to maintain that level of fitness ever since! I found what I loved and stuck to it.

What inspires you?

The fact that, at almost 37, I’m the fittest and strongest I’ve ever been. It goes to show that being fit and healthy isn’t just for the young! I know I’m not exactly ancient, but I’ve also seen some incredible results in clients much older than me. Our bodies show no bounds and it's never too late to get fit. If you are committed enough and stay consistent, work hard, persevere and have fun along the way, you can achieve anything! I’m constantly amazed by my own PT clients who achieve and surpass their goals and, most importantly, the joy it brings them; it's the main reason why I love doing what I do.

Top training tip?

I truly believe exercise should be fun, it shouldn’t be a chore. Too often we’re told that exercise, and fitness in general, is to be endured rather than enjoyed. Life’s too short to be doing something we don’t enjoy! So find something that you really respond to, that’s fun, that gets your body moving and raises your heartbeat, and try and stick at it. Consistency is key! At the end of the day, if you enjoy something, then the consistency part takes care of itself.
