More about Fit For Good
Fit For Good is a programme specifically designed to help older adults enjoy becoming stronger, more mobile, more stable and more socially active. Our programme can be delivered by local trainers in village or church halls, making exercise far more accessible for this demographic. Free sessions are also available online.
Fit For Good is aimed at older adults who want a conveniently located, full body exercise programme that doesn’t require getting down on the floor, or paying a monthly subscription to a gym or leisure centre.
Our programme is marketed via GPs, local social and church groups and through influencers – the children or friends of people who could benefit. Our aim is to make a flexible fitness programme available to the widest possible audience.
We also provide a regular newsletter.
For maximum benefit, participants should come to at least two sessions a week.
All Fit For Good trainers have their own insurance and the company carries additional coverage.
All trainers are qualified personal trainer practitioners. Some are also qualified to accept GP referrals.
Fit For Good training can help improve balance, flexibility and general fitness as well as increasing strength, mobility and cardio endurance, helping participants to have a more active, healthier life.
Fit For Good also offers opportunities for companionship and community service, keeping older adults engaged with their communities.
Fit For Good in-person classes and online sessions are a fun and effective way to improve your general fitness, health and wellbeing. They are designed and conducted by professional fitness instructors who will help you achieve greater cardiovascular health, balance, mobility and strength - the four key components to healthy ageing.
Each Fit For Good exercise class is a full body workout at a low to medium intensity suitable to all abilities and ages performed in a friendly environment.
The exercises can be performed standing or seated, and modified to suit your own level of fitness or health.
Each class starts with a mobility warm up for the major joints and muscles groups, followed by a combination of cardiovascular work for heart health; strength work for improved bone density, joint and tissue health; functional movements for improving daily life; balance work for improving stability; and core work for building a strong trunk. Each class ends with a gentle cool down and age appropriate stretch. You can use your own body weight and dumbbells in a friendly and social environment. You may be challenged to do more than you thought you could but you will never be pushed to exhaustion.
There aren’t many people over 60 without some health or fitness issue. As long as your doctor agrees, you should be able to participate in a Fit For Good class at your own level.
You will be asked to fill in a short online medical information form providing some background on any medical conditions and sign a disclaimer taking responsibility for your own safety.
Please check with your doctor before starting any exercise programme, including Fit For Good.
We ask you to fill out a short online form about your health which will help your Fit For Good trainer to understand your fitness goals and will help you to set realistic short-term and long-term goals. If you have existing health issues, these must be mentioned. A letter from your GP allowing you to participate may be needed.
To ensure a place in your chosen class and to keep costs as low as possible, please book and make payments online. Trainers will not be able to accept cash.
Please cancel any booked classes or Zoom sessions as soon as possible and contact us. With a GP note, you’ll be refunded your unused fee.
Comfortable clothing that you can move around in and trainers or plimsolls. A short sleeved shirt with a jumper or fleece that you can easily take off as you warm up works well.
If you would like to use weights, please bring dumbells, cans of beans, bottles of water or whatever works for you - no glass containers. Please also bring a bottle of water to ensure that you stay hydrated throughout. For classes that require you to get up and down from the floor, please ensure you bring a mat.
If you wish to purchase equipment for home use, we can help you buy what you need.
